Bioenergy Infrastructure Group

 

In 2015, Infracapital, Aurium Capital Markets, Helios UK BIG L.P. and Foresight Group launched the Bioenergy Infrastructure Group (BIG), a platform established to invest in the construction of biomass and Energy-from-Waste (EfW) plants in the UK. Infracapital made the largest commitment, at £160m, with Helios contributing £33m.

Since inception in October 2015, BIG has fully deployed its original capital at £200m in the funding of two projects:

Ince Bio Power

Ince Bio Power: a 21.5MW waste biomass plant at Protos, Cheshire. BIG was the sole investor, providing all of the c.£100m financing for the project

  • 15 years feedstock contract to supply locally-sourced waste wood
  • Provide enough electricity to power 40,000 homes once operational
Energy Works Hull

Energy Works Hull: a 25MW plant on a 7.5 acre industrial site in Hull, East Yorkshire. BIG invested c.£100m, alongside funding from NOY Waste to Energy and Hancock Renewable Energy Group and a £20m grant from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

  • 15 years Contract for Difference (CfD) - the first CfD contract for an Energy from Waste project in the UK
  • Generate enough electricity to power 43,000 homes once operational
