Foresight European Solar Fund, a Jersey based limited partnership, provides access for high net worth individuals to solar investment opportunities in Europe. The fund typically acquires ground based operating solar plants but occasionally finances the construction phase of suitable projects.

Project sizes range from £5 million to £60 million which will typically be financed with equity from the fund and project finance facilities, reflecting the low risk nature of the operating plants and local government subsidies. With government backed incentives for solar energy generation, returns are expected to be predictable and low risk facilitating a stable stream of future cash flows out of which distributions can be made. Capital appreciation is expected to be generated by aggregating a portfolio of operating assets and selling this to longer term investors or energy companies who have a lower cost of capital and require a low risk operating portfolio with critical mass.

The fund is managed by the Infrastructure team, who have a deep knowledge of the relevant solar energy markets and regulatory environments, and operate from offices in Rome and Sevenoaks. The team has developed a sector specific network of advisors, lending banks and key strategic partners. These relationships generate an international pipeline of investment. Having identified suitable solar projects, Foresight manages the entire investment process, subcontracting installation and operational management through EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) and O&M (operating and maintenance) contracts. Foresight arranges the optimum funding solution for each project, which typically includes a project finance debt facility and equity from Foresight's solar funds.
