With a broad range of funds, Foresight's three sector teams invest for the long term in private equity, infrastructure and environmental transactions. Foresight is flexible in structuring transactions, providing a mix of equity, loans or mezzanine finance depending on the requirements of each transaction.
Foresight Private Equity typically invests between £1 million and £5 million (although we syndicate with equity and debt partners where required for larger transactions) in well established companies through a wide range of transaction types, including:
- Management buy-outs (MBOs), management buy-ins (MBIs) and buy-in management buy-outs (BIMBOs).
- Growth capital to fund organic expansion, capital expenditure and acquisitions.
- Equity release or cash outs, allowing shareholders to release value from their businesses whilst maintaining an ongoing involvement and gaining a supportive new partner.
- Mezzanine finance – our mezzanine funds invest between £0.5m to £1.5m, often investing alongside other Foresight funds.
We look for high quality management with a track record of performance and delivery, a well formulated strategy and the ambition to grow their company. We typically invest in growing companies generating over £500,000 EBITDA per annum, with a scalable business model, a strong competitive position and a clear exit strategy.

Foresight Infrastructure invests in two principal sectors, renewable energy and Secondary PFI schemes. Within renewable energy, Foresight has acquired more than £300 million of operating PV assets in Italy, Spain and the UK. Foresight is also active in the on-site energy and energy efficiency sectors. Secondary PFI projects have long term contracted revenues, often index linked with governmental and blue chip counterparties. These investments vary considerably in size but are able to attract substantial bank finance by virtue of their contracted revenues or other government subsidies. Foresight Infrastructure originates the opportunities, attracts project finance and provides the required equity element of typically £2-10 million in projects of up to £50 million in size. Exceptionally, larger projects can be considered. Foresight Infrastructure operates in partnership with major institutional investors and family offices.

Foresight Environmental invests in Environmental Infrastructure in the UK, specifically local scale recycling and renewable energy facilities (such as waste to energy) with the potential for national roll-out. These opportunities utilise technologies proven overseas and brought to the UK by companies often at a relatively early stage of development. The Environmental team applies its industrial, engineering, operational management and financial skills to develop these opportunities alongside investee company management. Foresight Environmental invests both debt and equity to finance the construction, operation and roll-out of plants, typically investing up to £10 million in projects with existing planning permission.
These investments can offer attractive financial returns and deliver clear environmental benefits by diverting waste from landfill and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Foresight Environmental seeks to invest in projects which meet local government and European environmental objectives and thereby often benefitting from incentive schemes such as the UK's feed-in-tariffs (FITs) or Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs).
In September 2011, Foresight successfully raised £60 million for the Foresight Environmental Fund from institutional investors (including the London Waste Fund and European Investment Bank) for investment in waste recycling and biomass to energy infrastructure projects in the Greater London area.
