Conrad Colman wins ‘Achievement of the Year’ at Yachts and Yachting Awards 2018 for his epic Vendee Globe

Huge congratulations to Conrad Colman, #crazykiwi, who was awarded ‘Achievement of the Year’ for his epic 110-day Vendee Globe odyssey at the Yachts and Yachting Awards, hosted at the London Boat Show. The award was voted by the readers of Yachts and Yachting.

Colman is the first and only man to complete the renowned solo non-stop race around the world without using fossil fuels on board his specially converted IMOCA 60 Foresight Natural Energy.  But the real achievement was in completing the race after 110 days at sea, surviving the final days on emergency rations after losing his mast off the coast of Portugal just 750 NM from the finish, and using all his strength and ingenuity to fashion a jury rig from the remains of his broken boom and sails to finish a commendable 16th coming home to a rousing welcome at Les Sables d’Ollones.
