From October 24th, the facility will be opening its doors for deliveries at 10pm, staying open through the night until 4.30pm the following day, from Mondays to Fridays.  On Saturday mornings the facility will close at 8am.
Since opening in February 2014, the plant has already diverted more than 63,000 tonnes of food waste from landfill and has produced over 31,000 MWh of renewable power.
Jack Armond, Commercial Manager, East London Biogas commented:
"We are trialling these hours for the next six months and hope that customers will find them convenient for vehicle logistics. We are keen to make these hours permanent, providing that customer uptake is sufficient.”
James Samworth, Partner, Foresight Group added:
"Foresight has been committed to enacting sustainable change in the renewables industry, so it is great to see improvements to East London Biogas’ operation as a step towards this aim. With these extended opening hours, customers will be able to deposit far more food waste at their convenience; this will in turn generate larger amounts of renewable electricity.”
A new gas engine recently became operational on site, boosting generating capacity from 1.5MW to 3.5MW, and enabling the facility to accept and process greater tonnage of organic food waste.
