Full production of Ecosheet set to revolutionise use of recycled material in construction

2k Manufacturing, the Luton based company that has pioneered the revolutionary environmentally-friendly EcoSheet in which Foresight Group is an investor, has commenced full production after successful trials with many of the UK’s leading construction companies. The first orders amounting to over 8,000 sheets have been placed.

EcoSheet is a ground-breaking plywood replacement board made entirely from unwanted waste plastic.  It has been successfully trialled by the UK's biggest construction companies including Bovis Lend Lease, Apollo Group, ISG Pearce, Morgan Sindall and Wates, who all recognise its sustainable qualities. These trials have resulted in EcoSheet being specified as the product of choice in a number of National Framework Agreements with these construction companies. In addition, EcoSheet offers significant commercial and environmental benefits over plywood.

The new factory, which is the first of a nationwide network, will be of major benefit to the construction industry, which currently landfills millions of sheets of plywood a year.  EcoSheet costs about the same as plywood and, like plywood, can be used to build a variety of things but will have an immediate application on sites as hoarding.

It has a number of advantages over plywood, however. It is easier to work with because it does not produce injurious splinters. It does not rot. Unlike plywood, which usually ends up in landfill because it contains adhesives and preservatives and is often painted, EcoSheet can be recycled into more EcoSheet—even if it is painted.

2K has secured equity funding from Foresight Group, a leading investor in green investments, and debt financing from KBC Bank.

EcoSheet offers the following benefits to users:

• Impervious to rain and humidity and can  be stored outdoors
• No painting needed to protect it, but it can be painted
• Available in corporate colours
• Both sides are "A" faces
• Can be jet-washed between uses
• High fixing strength - it can be nailed with 50mm round wire nails, screwed and glued
• Standard sizes: 2440 x 1220 
• Generally lighter than plywood
• Cut edges do not need to be resealed
• Cuts with standard tools, yet without splinters or breakout
• Face repairs are easy and effective
• Cost is similar to plywood
• At end-of-life boards can be returned to 2K Manufacturing for recycling, thereby avoiding disposal cost
