Roxy Leisure Holdings Limited
Year of investment: December 2019
Sector: Consumer & Leisure
Amount invested: £2.5m
Roxy was launched to capitalise on the trend towards in-bar entertainment, with the aim of combining several gaming offerings under one roof. They now have ten venues in five cities, which offer a range of entertainment facilities including pool tables, ping-pong, bowling, shuffleboard, mini golf, arcade games and karaoke. The investment will be used in part as growth capital, supporting their expansion into additional locations across the UK. People are increasingly searching for more experiential activities when socialising, which has encouraged leisure venues to diversify their offerings beyond the traditional bar/pub set up.

Capital is at risk. The value of an investment, and any income from it can fall as well as rise and investors may not get back the full amount they invest. Venture Capital Trusts (“VCTs”) should be considered longer-term investments and may be higher risk and more difficult to realise than an investment in listed securities. Tax reliefs are dependent on the VCT maintaining its qualifying status and on investors’ individual circumstances. Current tax rules are subject to change. If a VCT loses its qualifying status, tax advantages will be withdrawn from that point. VCTs usually trade at a discount to their net asset value.
